For those who regularly follows the updates of this blog is no longer a secret that Bird People is one of my absolute favorites. Every album by this Austrian project marked by special approach, a special mood and unique perspectives. Profoundly pantheistic in its essence, founded on rituals that are rooted in Paleolithic twilight of humanity and yet permeated with modern winds and waves as much natural, as the ancient menhirs that stood god knows how many thousands of years to the present day. Combining many acoustic instruments with electronic effects and analog electronics, Ulrich Roi creates perfect alloy from which he repeatedly casts new tools. Sometimes it reminds weapons (especially in the case of the album Nightshades), with which you can literally cut the flesh of reality in half to see something that is beyond the body of nature, and sometimes is's mysterious tools like those that can be seen in ancient observatories. Megalithic structures, adjusted by the solar and lunar pathways linking heaven and earth together. These moments of separation and connection, which permeated all works of the project, reveal us truly alchemical nature of this music. Powerful drones like fire and sulfur, like underground magma - burn out everything superfluous, giving rise to crystals and ores, while the water and the air are making soulless matter breathing, performing the mystery of life...
Rituals conducted by thousands of generations of people have never been dogma, their shape is continuously changing, it was filled with all sorts of content, but one thing has always remained the same - the belief that during the life of a person can feel from something from beyond everyday life. Don't think that this is purely archaic relic, because even if you look at the strict building of modern science in the scale of whole known history, it is nothing more than a kind of religion, a cult, where the knowledge has become God, and experimental verification of the knowledge - prayer and communion. Philosophy of India experienced something similar couple of thousand years ago, but here, in Europe mind always went hand in hand with mysticism. And if we were talking about mysticism, we should say that no matter how good were sound or composition of Bird People's albums, it would be nothing without bottomless depth of mystical experience behind it. Undoubted presence of something that our language is powerless to convey, stands behind every sound of Ulrich's music. And it is certainly the most important moment in any kind of creativity when not form defines the content, but on the contrary, from a deep, mind-altering experience emerges the need to tie together its manifestation in the world. Will this relation be expressed by paints, rhymes or sounds isn't so important. The main thing is that the result came alive, spoke for himself and gave the others opportunity to touch this experience of infinite. In such cases people usually say "impressive!", and all the foregoing - is just my attempt to convey this personal impression.
