Uton & Courtis – Flokka Kur

Uton & Courtis

Return to russian.

Listening to this work, I understood one thing about myself: from one side, I like music from which you don't know what to expect: alive, joyful, organic; from the other side, extreme suddenness often sounds like chaos and nothing more, except headache, and don't really enjoy excessive passion for improvisation. It is precisely because I am used to finding a balance between the extremes I really liked this album. There is life, dynamics and it is quite unpredictable. But, in the same time, sounds on this album aren't like a mad dogs on the loose, on the contrary - everything here sounds as musicians just set up an initial conditions, planted a seeds in the right place in the right time. Yeah, don't forget about necessary spells.

Magic atmosphere of this album is unique, because this is magic far away from human rituals and ceremonies. Everything happens here like musicians are prying some holy rite and giving us a chance to see it too. No one explains anything, everything goes by own ways, and everyone should have own understanding of the ritual that lies behind the densely coiling lianas and colorful flowers buds. Nature itself, in its life, makes something, from which people will create a religion after many thousands of years. Machines and concrete cities built by man - just a glimpse in this process, so fleeting in the scale of planet's life as dinosaurs existence, for example. Only great and unconquerable human selfishness makes us think that there is something we can truly destroy. Unless themselves.

Music on this CD creates state, which remains moment when you alone in the woods, in the middle of the night, far from city lights and under the influence of certain mushrooms. In this condition you feel helplessness in front of nature, and precise self-awareness at the same time: living, breathing creature, whose skin pushes away the sticky tentacles of darkness. Declaring himself as something separate, a person becomes capable of self-knowledge. Carried away by this process, it may come to a complete rejection of all external, from which it emerged. But it just enough to crawl out of cozy shell, as everything should fall into place. Coming back to the extremes mentioned in the first paragraph - Flokka Kur balances them, but without neutralization. This music is a challenge, it can test listeners strength, taking him to the whirlpools of half-forgotten fears, playing with children's nightmares... But once you dive in its swirls it becomes easy and highly interesting to explore this endlessly changing aural world.
